Padayatra in Holland!

Taking a rest The days of the padayatra in Holland were very successful – short, but sweet. Although there were some challenges in the organisation and getting permissions, still it went ahead in style.

The padayatra attracted a lot of attention and the local people really enjoyed it. The local newspapers found it an interesting story and it appeared on the front page of Limburg’s Dagblad, amongst others.

Those participating walked with the bullocks and cart for three days, averaging 10km per day. And in the evenings they held a cultural program at their destination with between 30 to 50 guests coming each day. Devotees also distributed Srila Prabhupada’s books during the procession, giving out over 350 in total.

Boys enjoying the festival About 30 devotees participated in the padayatra – most staying for the whole time with a few coming just for the day. There was a lovely atmosphere during the walks and at the programs, with lots of singing of the Lord’s names and dancing.

Everyone enjoyed the festival very much and are looking forward to next year’s padayatra. This year’s event was a good tester for having more of these festivals, and we wish Gauravani Devi Dasi and Parama Karuna Dasa all the best for them. Next year they hope to hold similar events in several western European countries, including Belgium, Holland, and Germany.

Also, many thanks to everybody who participated or helped this year!
